Ordered Comcast HSI in early 2003. Started off with a Webstar modem. Connection was excellent until December 2003 through January 2004, when the modem reset on its own. Called Comcast, but my area (Alexandria, VA) was not listed as having an outage. The first Techie that was sent out ran some tests, replaced, the modem, then came back the next day to repair or replace some wiring underground. That temporarily worked, but I began to re-experience the same thing about 1 1/2-2 months later. I've gone through 4 or 5 different modems (and close to 10 Techies come out to my place), all of which are rented through them, and NONE have proved significantly better than the others, except for one Motorola 4100 Surfboard modem, and even this was subjected to resetting, sans the rave reviews I've heard about it. I do not have a router. I do have ZoneAlarm, which one of the 15-or-so Techies explained would be the problem (I've heard other things) because of the firewall issue, but I keep the settings at default level. I'm very frustrated at this point, partly because I hear the same thing over and over again, if not some other possible "problem", but it can never be a signal strength issue, as they (Comcast) point out. Who wants to have their connection die when the Internet is primarily used to pay bills? Plus, some Reps don't even bother to call before they come, like Tech Support says they're supposed to. I need a REAL Rep to help me out. One of my neighbors (in the same building) has the same Motorola modem, which I had last week (replaced by an RCA modem), but he's been online for 30-something days straight. I haven't.. Go figure.
