Comcast overall is pretty good. There are only occasional drops or sags in ping times and about once a month the service will go down for a little bit. but overall it is pretty good. I did a self install so I don't really know if their technicians are quick at installing the service and getting it running. The motorola surfboard SB4200 modem that they recomended seems to work fine.

With 256 upload now gaming seems to be a little better. Traffic shaping has just recently been turned-on and so now I always see the 1.8 megabit cap.

Comcast has upgraded the silver plan's cap to 3300/256, so now downloads are even faster. I still routinely see the cap all the time, nothing under.

Well, everything is still going great, the service (I think) is the best available here. I always see at or near 3.3 megabits in the speedtests here. Comcast has also upgraded the modulation to 256QAM recently.

    ***update***

Although the area I'm in was one of the absolute last Comcast markets to finally implement PowerBoost, the service here remains absolutely rock-solid. Overall, outages are the exception to the rule, and it the full downstream/upstream cap of now (6600/384) is always something one can expect to get. The tier I'm on now is that speed because I subscribe to the digital premium and HD cable packages.

Renting a modem really isn't the best way to go either; I use my own Linksys BEFCMU10 v.4 for it's verbose signal and provisioning pages.

Overall, what has struck me these past years is how bulletproof the service is. Still the best available out here.
