I ordered 128/1500 Broadband and limited basic (lifeline) cable - the locals were to compliment my DirecTV which does not offer them in NM. Not a bad deal for $50.00 per month.

The ordering process was straight forward - the customer service rep was both knowlegable and helpful. Since my home had never been wired for cable, a survey was made to determine the closest Aerial tap (appx 360 ft.). As soon as the survey was deemed acceptable, Comcast contacted me, I placed the order, and installation was scheduled for three days later. I then went out and bought my own LinkSys Cable Modem, reported the MAC, model, and serial number to my Comcast customer service rep, then prepared my home PC for installation day.

The installing contractor (an electrical sub to Comcast) showed up on time with an apprentice. The journeyman was a little irritated by the 360 ft aerial run required to reach my house and a little concerned about using RG-6 for that distance (I too would have preferred RG-11). The new run and two installed drops took about two hours to install.

As soon as I connected the cable to my new LinkSys and powered it up, the modem began to initalize. Within three minutes I had a steady green light indicating a good connection. I am consistantly getting 122K up and 1500 to 1650K down. The connection has been solid for almost a week. So far, I am geting what was promised.

My next task is to add a router...

As of 02/10/03 Comcast just bumped my upstream to 256 - Very nice! I also just bumped their rating up on connection reliability and value for money.

03/15/05 - 384K up and 4.4MB down - only one equipment related full outage in the last couple of years and Comcast corrected it within hours. They are doing well in my book.

12/21/06 - Still doing ok. No real issues within the past two years.

09/15/07 - Time to say goodbye to Comcast. QWest finally put a DSLAM in my local CO so I am jumping ship.
