I've had Optimum Online for over five years and am still happy with its service. Setup was rather simple and painless; I did it myself, and I'm not exactly a super techno-geek. I have the basic service, 15Mbits download/2 Mbits upload, which for the average user is more that what they need. The introductory rate is a very attractive $29.95/month for the first year, but be prepared to shell out as much as $49.95/ month after that. You can get it for as little as $44.95/month if you sign up for their bundled services, like Opimum Voice phone service or iO digital cable, however the deal is only for a year. They also offer a faster tier called Boost, which increases the speed to 30 down/5 up which will cost an extra $9.95/month with a bundled service or $14.95/month without. Unless you upload a lot of files or play online gaming, the basic service will more than suffice. In addition, Cablevision announced implementation of DOCSIS 3 in the near future, which will offer faster speeds and improved internet enhancements. Sadly though, customer service however falls way below average. The CSR's I talked to seem aloof when confronted about a problem. From my experience, it's usually hit or miss with the help from Cablevision's CSR's. Fortunately you'll rarely have to call them, since the service has been quite excellent. I've had no disconnections, and the speed has remained constant. All in all, I've been perfectly happy with Optimum Online, despite the expense, and would have no reason to switch to another provider.
