UPDATE: The service for me seems to have stabilized. I haven't had a disconnect in a long while. My only compliant is that Cablevision is very addament about not giving you the modem you want. For example, I figured the problem with my outages was a Motorola problem so I asked over the phone and at the walk-in store for a Scientific Atlanta modem. The techs over the phone say they don't have any more and the walk-in people say they don't give them out. Both are lies but I actually went out and bought a Sci Atl Webstar and the service was rock solid since. Now that I have Optimum Voice I again asked for Sci Atl and they still bring a Motorola. It's been solid thus far but we'll see how long this lasts.
OOL is a "good" service in my opinion. Adding BOOST makes it better for me since there are no "caps" on BOOST customers(a cap is when you "overuse" your supposed unlimited service) and increased upload speed from 2Mbps to 5Mbps which is laughable compared to DSL because DSL's download speed is slower. But, even with BOOST, I still call the service average because as of late it has become a bit unstable. It's not unstable too the point that I can't use it, but it is irritating that I get service interruptions at the worst possible times. Honestly though, there shouldn't be interruptions at all given the fact that this service is advertised as "always on" and the fact that OOL is part of the same technology that Lightpath Metro Ethernet(which guarantees 99.99% uptime) is built on. Price is a factor as well. OOL costs $50 a month or $65 with BOOST without incentives. The incentives are good but only if you are a new customer or have other Cablevision services such as iO and Optimum Voice. Considering the reliability as of late I simply can't afford to get OV.
