March 2008 - Had issues with big time slow downs at night. My HD channels also had a lot of pixelation... some channels were unwatchable. I called tech support, they said the levels were low and they would send someone out a few days later. Immediately after the call, the pixelation stopped. The tech came out and couldn't do anything. I called a week later because it was happening again. They said my levels were fine and mysteriously the pixelation stopped after the call again. I no longer have slow downs at night and my HD service is typically good.
New install in November 2007 for OV/OOL/TV
First did the upstairs of a 2 family. I informed the tech I had just had my hardwood floors done. He was very nice, but obviously didn't hear me or didn't care. Banging his drill around on the floor and his ladder. The 2 guys were here for a few hours. Installed 4 rooms, had to go into the attic, added wall plates. Hard workers, just sloppy. Did a fairly nice job inside. Unfortunately, they left all sorts of cable and cut up pieces outside in my yard. They left when it was dark so whatever.
2nd install 2 weeks later in the downstairs apartment. White cable strewn around the house and stapled in. Looks like crap. I have a crawl space so it would have been nice if they had used this instead. No plates installed even though I asked. So, I have ugly wiring just pushed through the walls. I called CV and asked about this and was told it would be $46 per plate to have someone come out. Cut up cable, staples, etc were left on the lawn again. This time it was light out so no excuses. What can you do?
Speeds appear fine. Haven't done a speed test yet. It seems overloaded in the evenings.
The biggest problem I'm now having is crosstalk with Opt. Voice. I'll be talking to someone and they'll hear ringing and static. Sometimes they hear a person talking. This is only occasional. I reported this today. The very nice CSR said there have been a lot of complaints in my area about this and she'll have someone take a look. We'll see if it gets fixed. Voice mail does not send the information for phones that display a voice mail indicator. This is just the way it is I was told.
Previous install from 2006
Took a little over a week to get the appointment to get a guy to come out and hook me up with cablevision, ool and optimum voice. Installer did a fine job. I ordered boost, but had to call to get that turned on. Took a day or two because they had the wrong serial. For cable, I had to call to turn certain things on that I had ordered (i.e the DVR function).
Outside the install. Speeds are great and so is the reliability. I have boost which increases your speed. (30 Meg down, 5 MB UP) My best result with the speed test here is 24mbps down and 3.4 up. To run a web server you must purchase Boost to open port 80. Boost is $15, $10 if you have cable or opt voice (not sure if you have to have both) Price outside the promo is around $45 I think.
Cablevision cable is ok. I liked Time Warner's DVR better.
Optimum voice is surprisingly good. My whole house is lit up with telephone and you'd never know it was VOIP.
$30 for each service using the triple play promo so I can't complain.
