I cannot get DSL here, so if I want broadband it's cable or nothing, which means Roadrunner is my only option. I ordered the standard Roadrunner package (7Mb down/512 Kb up) for $26/month (cable internet only, no television). This is cheaper than other people I know are paying, but I was told it is not a promotional rate, so we'll see.

On the day scheduled for the install, the installer called to see if he could come earlier than the scheduled time, but we weren't home yet. We waited until 10 minutes before the end of the appointment window and he still wasn't there, so we called to see if he was still coming. They said he would be there in 10 min, but he needed at least 30-45 min for the install and that was cutting it too close since we had somewhere else to be that evening, so the appointment had to be rescheduled. I was told the installation would be free, but then they charged me $10 to put a plastic box on my house. I was issued a Motorola Surfboard SB5101 modem. The installer took several hours to complete the installation because he couldn't get an IP address on his computer. Finally, I plugged in my laptop instead and got an IP right away, so he had been chasing his tail because of a problem with his laptop.

When everything is online, the speed is great, but my connection is too frequently interrupted. I sometimes experience brief outages during the day. Periodically, my connection drops after midnight, and is offline for several hours. I once called tech support during such an outage and was told it was "scheduled maintenance". I asked about the schedule or if they could let people know when they would be down, but they told me they don't notify customers before scheduled downtime, and that the maintenance schedule is not available to customers. This seems ridiculous to me.
