    I was only getting 4 Mbps down. Up was fine. Rather than go through the headaches with support people on the phone I picked up my own Motorola SB5101 modem to use with my RR service.

    This, of course, required me to call in and have the new modem (HFC MAC address) provisioned. I was told three business days. Three days later I called in and it was still not provisioned. I was told it would be ready by the weekend. It wasn't. I called back on Monday, six days later and it was still not ready.

    Tech 1 transferred me to tech 2 who said it wasn't ready and that it would take a few more days and probably be ready "some time this week". I said this was unacceptable and demanded to speak to a supervisor.

    The supervisor came on the line after a wait and was able to put the request through immediately.

    The result - I now get over 9 Mbps down (same 512 Kbps up).

    Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
