Sometime in 2004, Time Warner Cable sold off their Indianapolis cable operation to Brighthouse Networks. Since then not much has changed except for the name. Road Runner still costs $45/month for 6mb/384kb service. It includes 5 email accounts and a megabyte of web space. The install process only took a few days from order and was pretty seamless.

Generally the service is pretty fast and rarely lags in speed. They use Motorola SB5120 modems which are very reliable.

I live out in Plainfield (Hendricks County) and we have had numerous outages in the past couple months. The first one was because someone slammed into a telephone pole. The second time, no one at tech support knew what happened but the outage lasted a few hours. With more and more people switching to VOIP you would think the cable system would be more reliable. Although thunderstorms rarely knock out the cable as easily as they did last decade.

Through several name changes (formerly Time Warner, and American Cablevision before that), the cable system has come a long way from the days in the early 90's when there were only 36 analog channels, no high speed internet and no on-demand services.

I dream of a pure-digital cable system with HD channels available, uncapped upstream transfer rates, and 24/7 customer service, all for under $150/month. It's time to do away with analog channels and use that bandwidth for digital and HD transmission. Do you hear me, Brighthouse?
