I relocated last year and because of the move, the cable company providing service changed from Adelphia to Time Warner. Time Warner has been outstanding from the start. I called to order service and had an installation appointment the next day. The install went smoothly - I was up in just over an hour. At that time a 3Mbps speed was guaranteed. I was achieving over 4 Mbps on Broadband Reports test server in Parsippany, NJ. I have had stand alone cable modem service (have DirecTV) for just over a year, and recently I had an outage. I called phone support - they ran some tests and discovered the issue to be my modem. A service tech was to bring my modem the next day - instead they showed up the same day due to another appointment being in the same area. I was issued a brand new Toshiba 2600X modem. Also, Time Warner recently upgraded my area to VOIP and 7 Mbps speed. My speed tests on the aforementioned server run at 6.5 Mbps, so anything I need I get - fast! My parents (who are still on Adelphia HSI) see half the speed I do and pay $10 more a month than me! Another good reason to move out!
update 01/03/2007
upgrade to 10 mbps down on 12/12/2006 - still the same 384k upload. speedtests show i am hitting between 9.7 and 9.8 mbps consistently 1 outage that I noticed in 2006 - not too shabby
update 4/30/2007
been having issues with one of the DVR boxes so i called - wait was a little long (25 mins) but c/s was friendly. tech coming out in 2 days to switch out box. mentioned roadrunner turbo service for $10 more (as seen on BBR) and upgraded to 15/1. change was immediate - just powered down modem and rebooted it. first speedtest off speakeasy in NY getting 14.5 down/0.97 up. thats fast!
update 5/3/07
tech showed up at 12:30pm on a 12-4 installation window. replaced dvr and new one working perfectly. he also noticed signal level was a little low - reran cable from outside box for this line and that corrected issue. overall i am very satisfied with time warner in my area.
update 12/08/07
well, i am getting a divorce, so i moved to my own place - and of course i need my speed! no FIOS out my way yet! TW was offering 2 services (12 month contract) for 29.99 each, so i ordered digital cable and roadrunner (for $10 more added turbo). install appointment for 11/17 was confirmed the day before. tech arrived at 9:10am on the 8-10 install window. was done by 10:30 ran all new line from the pole and wired 2 rooms and modem. boxes and modem were all brand new, which was nice!
after looking at my local carrier for home phone (verizon), and seeing that local flat rate was $25/month (plus $55 installation), i went with TW digital phone for $30/month and no installation charges. install was 12/08/07, and tech showed up at 9:50am on a 10-12 window,.finished in 20 minutes, new modem again.
latest speedtest showing 14.5m down/1.7m up.
why my services score is lowered to 80: one negative point about this process is what digital phone does to your account. once you place your order, the account is locked from any other changes. if you make a change, your whole order is cancelled and you start over. i had two issues happen while waiting for my digital phone order: 1) my address on the bill was wrong. this caused a delay in scheduling the install because someone had to come out and verify my address (for 911) before we could schedule a tech to install. this delayed my order by a week. it then took 2 more weeks for an open appointment. 2) my box in my bedroom stopped working. the issue wasnt the box, it was provisioned wrong on the account and became "not authorized". with the digital phone order in place, it could not be fixed until today, so i had to unhook my box and go directly into the TV. TW did credit me the box cost for the month.

| Re: great,,,looks great well, in niagara falls those speeds are correct as you are on the former adelphia (and future buffalo.res.rr.com) network.
i am on the rochester.rr.com network (the far west end covers Royalton and Hartland). the RATED speed on standard is 10000 down/384 up. Premium is 15000 down/1000 up here. if you search all the speed tests done in zip codes beginning "14xxx" on this site, you will see the rochester.rr.com and twcny.rr.com networks are rated this way.
since i am achieving 14522 down/972 up (check my last 3 speedtests) - the proof is right on BBR.
you are right - no one guarantees speed. what Time Warner states to customers is they should expect to see AT LEAST 50-75% of their rated line speed at all times. i happen to be seeing 97% of my lines rated speed (every ISP has a "theoretical maximum" line speed).
BTW - per the email below standard is 5 down/premium is 8 down in the Buffalo area (including Niagara Falls).
this was posted in the roadrunner forum:
Topic: Re: Migrated from Adelphia, no speed?
FYI
Here is an email response from Roardrunner tech support regarding speeds:
The speed of your Internet connection depends on the package to which you subscribe. As a general guideline, you can expect to consistently achieve between 50 and 75 percent of the theoretical limit. This is largely due to the protocol overhead inherent in the transmission of data. Variations in network traffic also affect the available bandwidth.
For a 5 Megabit connection, the average download speed ranges from 2560Kbits/sec or 320 KBytes/sec to 3840 Kbits/sec or 480 KBytes/sec and the upload speed is 300 Kbits/sec or 37.5 KBytes/sec. The theoretical maximum download speed is 5120 Kbits/sec or 640 KBytes/sec.
For the Premium 8 Megabit connection, the average download speed ranges from 4092 Kbits/sec or 512 KBytes/sec to 6144 Kbits/sec or 768 KBytes/sec and the upload speed is 512 Kbits/sec or 64 KBytes/sec. The theoretical maximum download speed is 8192 Kbits/sec or 1024 KBytes/sec.

| Lucky you Ur lucky u got speed for Road Runner Turbo as 15 down and 1 up. Over here in New Jersey and Part of New York only gets 10 down and 768 k up. And it's $25 more. 44.95 + 25.00 = 69.95
I'm stuck with Roadrunner but the Standard Service which gives me 7 down and 512 k up. It's not bad but I would love if Road Runner Turbo was just $10 more than $25 and less speed.

| Re: Lucky you i think the reason i got this is because FIOS is coming out in most of the Rochester, NY and Time Warner does this as a "competitive upgrade".
However - I am on the far west end of the Rochester network and am in the middle of nowhere. By the time I get FIOS I'll be on Social Security and have to make my kids live with me so they pay for it.
Hopefully they hook you up soon... -- Hike up your skirt a little more - and show your world to me...
