NOTICE: This review is for SBC ADSL and not RoadRunner like it might say....I don't know what the problem is.

After a month or so of researching I was convinced that DSL was for me. I finally ordered the service, but was extremely disappointed to learn that my DSL modem would not arrive for another month. After waiting three weeks, however, my equipment arrived and I was thrilled to find out that my line worked a full week before it was suppose to. I did a self-install and it was completely painless.

My speeds started out around 324kbps/102kbps, but then improved to 855kbps/108kbps after a call to ASI to uncap the line as well as various registry tweaks. More recently I have seen speeds of 1152kbps/109kbps after removing a surge protector that my line was running through.

    Update: 1/23/2003
After 6 months using the SBC software to connect, I went for a wireless router. It is a piece of cake to use and a definite improvement over the software authentication method. After a couple of years with SBC DSL, I am totally pleased. No downtime to speak of and consistent speeds. Thanks SBC!

    Update 8/25/2005
Speed test during the middle of the day are around 1100 down / 310 up. Maybe not the fastest around, but very nice and extremely stable service. I can only think of it being down for an hour or two in the last 4 years. Price is now down to $25 per month.

    Update 9/07/2005
Two more years have passed and speeds have stayed largely the same and reliability has been almost 100%. Price has fluctuated from $20-25 depending upon how hard I fight for the latest and greatest deal. Still quite pleased with all aspects of the service.
