  • Gardena,Los Angeles,CA
  • $18 per month
  • (12 month contract)
  • AT&T
  • "very reliable dsl internet always works, never drops."
  • "AT&T lengthened line, resulting in slower speed"
  • "DSL Extreme is great (for dsl)"

DSL Extreme is great, the best DSL I've had. The only thing that will make me switch ISP someday is just that it is DSL and speed limited limited by the copper pair. Every 12 months DSLExtreme does this really strange thing where they send you an email saying something confusing and most people think the price is being raised. Some leave, thinking they are about to get ripped off. It's a mess. But it is just a communication and marketing mess, the DSL internet is great the whole time.

The actual message, poorly communicated, is that if you want to keep your good monthly rate, you need to commit for another 12 months, or else its going to be an extra $5 every month.

I used to pay $72/month for the same DSL plus several static IP numbers. Now that I'm not running web & email servers from home, I don't need that extra expense. The only way to get a reasonable deal ($18) was to switch my DSL to a different phone number, the deal on the main home page did not apply to me... Until I used my next door neighbors physical address and my 2nd phone number in the PreQualifying thingy.

Then it looked like I was a new customer & I could have the sub-$20 monthly deal. They said it was because of the way AT&T charges them, they get a better deal when opening a new line, and that deal stays good when renewed. Ha!
