I purchased a new house several weeks ago and I ordered phone service through AT&T and DSL through DSL Extreme. DSL Extreme reps were great to work with and they were no problem for me, AT&T however was a nightmare. It started out that in processing my order AT&T had changed my street address, so it took a week for them to come out again, after the phone was working I needed to reschedule the dsl part of the deal, I call DSL Extreme and they started a new install ticket. A week later AT&T sends out an inside wire tech(?) and we both pretty much dont understand why he was sent as the equipment still hasnt been installed at the CO. The AT&T inside tech makes a call and an hour after he leaves "poof" no dial tone on my phone for a week either. I make my calls to DSL Extreme and AT&T. AT&T sends out the correct tech (outside line), and he says "oh man this is messed up", turns out that the equipment was hooked up on somebody elses phone number... I am greatful that there is somebody at AT&T that knows what he is doing. And AT&T customer service M-F 9-5 ... whats up with that? I give DSL extreme all 5's as they did what they were supposed to do. If I could rate AT&T here I would give them all 1's.
Well after my year was up with DSL Extreme they have shown themselves as the shmucks they are. Rude tech support, Frequent disconnects, poor signal. They state I am too far away from the CO and have turned my 1.5Mbps connection down to 650kbps!! They threaten you with the $35 an hour charge for sending a tech out to deal with their problem, and I am still having disconnect issues no it's not inside wiring as I have a dedicated line to the box outside and no inside wiring).
I was happy with them for a year .. not anymore. The also raise your rates on you after the first year. And watch it because they don't send you an account update notice until AFTER they hit your bank account with a month to month fee (about 3x what you were paying).
08/08 I canned them, they were unwilling to fix the real problem with my service, they lied to me on the dslreports dslextreme forums about what they say is in my trouble reports and what I was actually told by the techs that visited my house (dsl not available at my address, distance too far away from CO location) , they had their moderator delete my response posts from the forums when I agreed on issues others were having with either their customer service or connections stating I was hijacking the posts. It isn't a true dsl reports user forum as you cannot really say anything other than your direct issue in your own post.. well unless you have something to say that they like to hear. It's more or less DSL Extremes Forum, not DSL Reports.
10/08 The GM will lie to you, I was told by ATT that I was to far from the CO and that is the cause of my connection problems with DSL Extreme.. The GM tried to tell me a different story and everything was working fine as he states ATT says. I refused to pay them until I had a good connection, months went by with no word from dsl extreme after I gave up on endless complaining and having my posts deleted by the lovely moderator on dsl extremes forum here.. Today I received a bill from dsl extreme in the mail for $420 !!!!! They will do anything to discredit you from leaving the contract because of a tech issue on your line that keeps you from an internet connection.

| dsl extreme I can completely understand Bill Peck's problem. The first year with DSL extreme was fine. Then the service disintegrated, the techs were incredibly rude, and I was getting 100 spam messages a day, and most of them originated inside DSL extreme. I finally gave up, and at considerable expense (business cards, letterhead, etc. etc.) changed to Cox. Now DSL is dunning me for a modem I never received (I used my own) even though the contract for one year was fully completed. These guys are real scum bags. | |

I can completely understand Bill Peck's problem. I think you may have misunderstood my "problem". First, I am a 100% satisfied DSLX customer. I told my story in considerable detail for the benefit of someone new coming along. I benefited greatly from other users reviews, esp regarding increased fees after the first year. A LOT of users whine about surprises and that tipped me off to actually READ the contract. We all know it's an introductory rate, having read the contract I was prepared for the 2nd year. After reading a lot of the complaints here I find that many are simply due to people not paying attention and people expecting to be babysat while paying rock bottom prices. I told how I upgraded my end to get the best possible service. I have NO complaints about anything they have done. I am quite impressed at the quality of service considering they are not charging premium prices. Ok actually I do have one complaint, in their ads they NEVER disclose that there is in fact an additional charge, at least in my area. Some add-on fee the telco charges as I understand it. Don't know if all telco's add a fee but I know several do. Oh well... -billpeck  | |
