    My Other Reviews·Comcast
Several glitches for my serivice install. First I had a arescom modem which didn't work w/ my RT. New modem (different brand) came but dropped sync whenever I pickup the phone. ASI tech here to pull out the "line tester" device from their box outside the house. Now w/ good modem and good line all is fine. Tech support answered within 5 mins of calling (Saturdays), addressed problem fast and got new modem shipped, and ASI tech out for line problem the same day. (I actually had a bad telephone!) Why pay Pac Bell more $$$ when its the exact same service. That and DSLx will actually escalate problems to ASI (Pac Bell). Pac Bell will just tell you to power cycle your modem.

Update (2004): After moving, I used Comcast, but also have DSLx as a backup. My DSL line has much better ping times, and better uptime than Comcast, but due to my location is limited to 1.5Mb. If I could get faster speeds from DSL I would drop Comcast and use DSLx exclusively.

Update (May 2008): AT&T has finally upgraded DSL here (mainly because Comcast just upgraded their network. I guess competition is good for something!). As wished for in 2004, 4 years later I ordered faster DSL, from DSLx and once I confirmed it was running well, dropped Comcast. 1 day after my activation date (AT&T activates at the end of the day), speeds ramped up to 5+MB. This is really nice. Low ping times, consistent 5MB regardless of where I test to (even east coast!). The DSLx network seems to have much more bandwidth than Comcast's. No more nighttime bottlenecks. I really missed DSL as my primary connection. And now I'm getting a faster and more consistent connection and paying 1/2 of what Comcast was costing me!
