    My Other Reviews·magicjack.com
I've had Earthlink since 2002 (now 2007). My speed is only 400kbps down (300kbps up) because of my distance from Qwest's CO. Earthlink's advertising should make it clearer that that the speed is dependent upon various factors and give a reasonable estimate based upon those factors. Not just "speeds up to 6mbps". That a true statement, but so obviously unapplicable to the majority that it's false advertising.

All of my outages have been due to Qwest destroying my phone line once or twice a year. (Static on the line). That's when it's painful to have so many players. I've always been successful in getting Earthlink to own the problem and work with *its* suppliers. But, I've had to be insistent. Their first response is that I should call Qwest. I feel they own it since Earthlink drove the whole process to provision DSL. They always do own it after I insist on it.

There are occasional (once every two months?) login and dns problems. They last a few hours. I can live with that.

I like that the speed (even though it's slow in my case) is consistent. It doesn't slow down during peak hours.

I *really* don't like how Earthlink puts banner ads on their webmail. I'm a paying customer. If it was a free service (like Yahoo mail) I could understand banner ads. It really INSULTS me to have a page load slowly due the adsvertisements. Maybe if I was getting the advertised 8mbps speeds it wouldn't bother me. But, it still seems tacky to shove advertisements to your customers like you're not already making enough money from them.

I hear a lot of people complain about India support. I've always had pleasant dealings and found them to go the extra mile for me ***as long as I'm patient and work with them***. Maybe it takes them longer than it would with a US tech. But, I accept it's going to take an hour. I make the best of it with the right attitude. I make small talk about where they are, what part of India they were originally from, the hours they work, how the economy is, etc. It always seems they appreciate being treated like a person who might be interesting to others. You can be frustrated or make the best of the situation. I've always had excellent service with the latter.

I like how Earthlink has techs participating on this forum.
