Several users have written in to draw our attention to the rumor over at the iMore blog that the new iPhone 5 should be released on September 21, after being introduced at a public event on September 12. "Unlike last year, when some 16 months separated the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4, a September 21 schedule would put the iPhone 5 launch at just over 11 months after the iPhone 4S," notes the blog. A new iPad mini and a new iPod Nano are also expected to be unveiled at the event. This release of the iPhone is notable for the fact the iPhone will finally support LTE networks, though it's currently unclear if the phone will be available on AT&T, Verizon and Sprint.

I've been primarily a Mac user for the past 8 years, but I'm not a Mac "fan boy." I don't defend every decision that the company makes; I'm not one of these people who thinks Verizon was somehow a lesser or even inferior cellular provider because they didn't carry the iPhone for the first three-and-a-half years of its existence.

I'm extremely bothered by the creeping in of Apple's sandboxing requirements, trying to force everyone to use iCloud, and just the looming theme of Apple knows best which seems more pronounced than before.

Sprint employees are busily preparing for the launch of the iPhone this October, and are just as busy leaking details of that preparation to various news outlets. Previous reports claimed Sprint would likely offer unlimited data plans for the iPhone unlike AT&T and Verizon, though some other reports suggest Sprint won't be getting the newest iPhone 5 until sometime next year. T-Mobile is also rumored to be preparing to get their hands on the previously AT&T -- then AT&T and Verizon exclusive device. Technology blogger Robert Scoble is pushing some unsubstantiated, second hand rumors that T-Mobile could be the first to get the device September 25. Consensus among analyst firms is that demand for iPhone 5 is fairly massive, despite the fact updates to the device are expected to be relatively minor -- with no LTE support planned until next year.
