In Monday's consumer and money headlines, home prices were slightly up in Atlanta in July, despite prices falling sharply nationwide.

Encouraging news in the Atlanta housing market, with the Metro area among one of seven cities nationally where home prices either went up slightly or remained steady. The closely watched S&P-Case Shiller Index shows Metro Atlanta home prices up ½ percent in July over June, following another slight increase for the previous month. Nationally, home prices fell at their sharpest annual rate ever in July.

ATLANTA (MyFOX ATLANTA) – Long lines, empty pumps and high frustrations -- and it could be a while before the problems at Metro Atlanta gas pumps get any better.

A gas shortage has been a problem for several southeastern states for about two weeks now and the ongoing fuel frustrations have left many questions in the minds of drivers.

Metro drivers are wondering if they will be enough gas to go around for the work week, what is being done to get more fuel into the area and what is being done at the local, state and federal levels to fix the gas shortage.

Atlanta's most recent monthly sales tax revenues are down 14 percent from the same period last year, city officials reported Wednesday.

The city collected about $8.3 million in May from its sales tax.

Atlanta gas prices hit record high

Atlanta recorded it's highest average gas price for regular unleaded Saturday at $4.048, according to the American Automobile Association, which surveys gas stations for its Daily Fuel Gauge Report, fuelgaugereport.com.

The average price for regular unleaded in Atlanta rose from $4.037 Friday to $4.048 Saturday morning.

DC court denies Georgia appeal on water ruling

WASHINGTON --The U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington has declined Georgia's petition to reconsider a recent ruling that restricts the state's authority to tap a huge federal reservoir near Atlanta for more drinking water.

A three-judge panel of the court in February threw out an agreement that Georgia reached in 2003 with the Army Corps of Engineers. The agreement - the linchpin of Georgia's long-term water plans - would give the state about a quarter of Lake Lanier's capacity over the coming decades.

Authorities Caution Against Icy Roads

ATLANTA (AP) — Meteorologists warned the mixture of rain and snow that fell across the South a day earlier could make for icy roads early Sunday, with overnight temperatures in the upper teens and low 20s.

On Saturday, snow, rain and sleet spread across parts of the region, dusting lawns and shrubs with flakes and leading airlines to cancel several hundred flights.
