Welcome to broadbandreports.com!
Also known as BBR or DSLR (for old-timers). Established May 1999, BBR has grown to become by far the largest broadband users community on the web. Our information comes from visitors such as yourself and our reputation is supported by your recommendations to friends, colleagues and family, online and offline. BBR contains so many sections that it can be confusing for first time users, so please, take a minute to read this introduction.
Shopping around for high speed internet service
Ok you have several possible options. First, DSL, which I am sure you have heard about. Fiber, currently offered in very limited areas, Cable internet, which is an upgrade to your existing cable TV installation. Satellite high speed, either two-way or one way (in conjunction with a 56k modem), or Wireless.
Which do I recommend? at this point in time I would say that DSL has improved to the point where it is roughly the same as Cable overall. While DSL is often more stable, Cable usually offers higher download speed. Be prepared, no matter which option you choose, you will have to pay significantly more per month than you currently do for dialup. Prices for any kind of "always on" high speed service are, for the majority of US residents, over $35 (including all taxes and surcharges) per month.
A quick introduction to Broadbandreports.com
In order to get a quick idea of how many DSL products may be available to you in your area (of the US), we invite you to use our DSL Availability Checker which queries providers to determine how far you are away from your local telephone office, and which ISPs we have listed may claim to service your location. Is SPEED what you are after? enter your zip code into our speedtest results database to find out which ISPs (by domain name) are currently providing the best download and upload speeds.
ISP Reviews
An important part of our site is user experiences with the different ISPs. On the Home Page you will always find the last few days of received ISP reviews. It can be quite interesting to read the experiences of others especially those that live in your state. You can also Search for an ISP in our database, and then click to read the reviews received to date on that ISP. Don't forget.. when you do get service ..
ISP Good Bad and Ugly charts We keep a weekly table on which ISPs get the best average user scores in each category. This is also a handy chart on which providers are most popular (by number of reviews) with our users. Our main page for links to help you find DSL, Wireless, Satellite and Cable providers is here. It may ask you your Zip-Code first, so please provide that so that the information can be customized for your town. Oh, and if you are looking for higher speed data lines, all the way to dedicated fiber, then you should check out the search engine our partner, bandwidth.com, operates, click here.
What are people saying in your area? Local information can be most valuable when deciding who should get your business. Check what people are saying about high speed service in your Zip-Code.
